Bhopal is operating under its 2005 Development Plan, with no new plan approved for over two decades. Traders are seeking a mixed-land-use policy. The delay in updating the master plan is attributed to complex geographical factors, environmental concerns, and procedural hurdles in successive draft plans.
MP Cabinet has approved significant development proposals of nearly ₹47,990 crore. Key among these are infrastructure upgrades, including ₹1,757.55 crore project to upgrade the Bhopal-Vidisha road into a four-lane highway & Rs 1,005 crore to ensure uninterrupted health services under the Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief.
Construction has commenced on the first phase of the Bhopal-Kanpur Corridor, a ₹1040 crore project that will feature a four-lane road, flyovers, and numerous bridges and underpasses. This development is expected to accelerate the development of Raisen and surrounding areas, improve road safety by reducing sharp turns and valleys, and enhance connectivity between Bhopal and Uttar Pradesh.
