The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has approved a metro project for Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula, with an estimated cost of INR 10,570 Crore. The 39-km metro network, excluding heritage sectors, will include bus terminals and depots and is part of a Comprehensive Mobility Plan approved in April 2023. Phase one is slated for completion between 2027 and 2037.
The Punjab government has decided to revert to the 2013 land acquisition act for acquiring land in Mohali for projects like Eco City 3 and the Aerotropolis extension, after scrapping the Land Pooling Policy 2025.
