Heavy monsoon rainfall has caused extensive damage to Chandigarh's road infrastructure, affecting over 400 km of roads and leading to an estimated repair cost of Rs 80 crore. The Municipal Corporation (MC) is floating tenders worth over Rs 40 crore for recarpeting V4, V5, and V6 roads as part of these repair efforts. Road cave-ins and potholes have been reported across various locations, drawing criticism from the Federation regarding the poor road conditions. An internal assessment by the MC revealed that nearly 225 kilometers of city roads are in very poor condition and require urgent repairs, with an estimated cost of Rs 33 crore. The MC has received a boost with the approval of Rs 125 crore from the Government of India to revamp city roads, prioritizing essential works and directing officers to initiate work on the most critical areas first.
