The Kolkata Airport is undergoing expansion to increase its annual capacity from 2.6 crore to 4.5 crore passengers. This includes the construction of a new terminal (T3), expected to be completed by December 2025, and runway upgrades. The number of parking bays will nearly double over the next eight years to accommodate more flights.
Kolkata Metro is undergoing significant expansion, aiming to add 100 kilometers to its network by 2026. This includes Phase 1 of the Joka to Esplanade (Purple Line) and New Garia to Kolkata Airport sections. The East-West Metro Corridor project aims to connect Salt Lake Sector V to Howrah Maidan. The New Garia-Airport Metro Link is set to connect New Garia to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. Three new metro rail services are set to be unveiled: the Noapara–Jai Hind Bimanbandar corridor to the international airport, the Sealdah–Esplanade line connecting the city center, and the Beleghata–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay route improving access to the IT hub. The airport metro link from Noapara to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport is expected to begin service by July 2025, and plans are underway to extend the Purple Line metro to Eden Gardens, the Green Line metro to Teghoria, and the Yellow Line metro to New Barrackpore. By 2026, Kolkata Metro will induct a total of 131 new rakes. The upcoming launches include the 2.6 km Esplanade–Sealdah segment of the Green Line (East-West Metro's final stretch), the 7 km Noapara–Airport corridor on the Yellow Line (its first operational phase), and the 4.5 km Ruby–Metropolitan link on the Orange Line's Phase II.
