Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a series of infrastructure development projects in West Bengal. The foundation stone was laid for the Extended Port Gate System at Balagarh, including an Inland Water Transport (IWT) terminal. A new 15-km railway line between Jayrambati and Maynapur was also inaugurated. Furthermore, three new Amrit Bharat Express trains were flagged off, improving long-distance connectivity.

Reports indicate that the East-West Metro stretch has faced delays and disruptions due to water leakage and soil subsidence. Meanwhile, the Metro Railway, Kolkata, has decided to renovate its four-decade-old infrastructure on the Dakshineswar-Kavi Subhas route due to detected cracks, with a target completion of nine months. These infrastructure upgrades are crucial for the city's public transport system.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed authorities to submit detailed action plans for waste and sewage management in Howrah to clean Hooghly river, address legacy waste, solid waste management, and sewage disposal with specific targets. This intervention seeks to enforce environmental accountability among civic and development bodies in the Kolkata Metropolitan Region.
