Theur, Pune

Theur is a promising suburb on the Pune - Solapur National Highway 65. It is a part of the Pune district (Haveli Taluka) and 25 kms. from Pune city. Theur is bounded on three sides by the Mula Mutha River.

Theur has the unique distinction of being an important pilgrimage centre. The Chintamani Mandir of Theur is one of the famed Ashtavinayaka (8 Ganeshas) temples of Maharashtra. It is one of the larger and more revered shrines of Lord Ganesha.

Besides the main Ganesha temple at the centre, there are some other shrines on the periphery of the complex. Behind the temple complex is the Peshwa Wada, which was once the residence of the Peshwa.

Ganesh Utsav is celebrated at a large scale in Theur during which a fair is also organised. The MIT Art, Design and Technology University is situated nearby, at Loni Kalbhor, on the NH 65 highway.    

In addition to its religious significance, Theur is fast developing as a prime residential locality.

It offers a natural environment due to its low-rise development and being surrounded by the Mula Mutha river on 3 sides. It also has minimal pollution as it’s away from industrial areas.

Although most day-to-day amenities are available in Theur, one might have to travel a bit to get some more urban options. As Theur develops more, this problem will probably be rectified. But as of now, Theur’s facilities cannot be compared to those of Pune.

Theur is well connected to Pune and other cities through the National Highway 65, Pune – Solapur road.

The main road connecting Pune to Theur is the Solapur - Pune Highway also called the Mumbai Highway.

• Theur Naigaon Road – It starts from Naigaon and connects Theur to the NH 65.
• The Theur Road – It’s an offshoot of the Theur Naigaon road and also connects to the NH 65 highway through Dhumal Mala.
• Theur Kesnand Road – It crosses the Mula River and provides connectivity to Kesnand and Kolwadi. This road also joins Manjiri Road which eventually leads back to NH 65 at Hadapsar.
