About Koyambedu, Chennai

Koyambedu is a neighbourhood in the Indian city of Chennai. The name of the neighbourhood is derived from the words ko (horse), ambu (arrow), and pedu (fence), since Lava and Kusha caught the horse sent by Rama in a fence made of arrows. After the opening of the Koyambedu market in 1996 and the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) in 2002, the Koyambedu neighbourhood, which is located in the western section of Chennai, has become a major focus of activity in the city. The neighbourhood is bustling 24 hours a day due to the flow of people and goods throughout the day, as well as the continuous availability of transit options such as long-distance buses, automobiles, share autos, vegetable goods carriers, etc.

The Koyambedu Market Complex in Chennai is one of Asia's largest wholesale markets for perishable goods. The Sri Kusalava Puree Svarar/Kurungaleeswarar Temple, the Sri Vaigundavaasa Perumal Temple, and the Sri Vinayagar Temple are some of the most important temples in the surrounding area. The intersection of the Inner Ring Road and Poonamallee High Road is part of the National Highways Development Project's Golden Quadrilateral project.
