Thane Faces Water Crisis and Property Tax Shortfall

Thane is grappling with a severe water shortage, particularly affecting areas like Kalwa, Mumbra, and Diva, where water supply is limited . The TMC faces a daily shortfall of 31 MLD. In addition,TMC has collected INR 556.19 crore in property tax, falling significantly short of its INR 841 crore target for the current FY. This shortfall of over INR 280 crore has prompted the TMC to intensify recovery measures against defaulters.

Thane Focuses on Slum Rehabilitation for SGNP project

The Thane Collector has identified 10 land parcels for slum rehabilitation under the SGN (Sanjay Gandhi Nationl park) Project, aiming to provide safe housing for slum-dwellers in areas like Kopri-Pachpakhadi, Ghodbunder Road, and Kalwa-Mumbra. The Thane district collector has identified around 290 hectares (722 acres) of land to construct tenements for the eligible slum dwellers in villages in Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Ambernath, Shahapur, and Murbad talukas.

Thane Municipal Corporation to Increase Maternity Beds at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) is increasing the number of maternity beds to 90 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital (CSMH) due to a rising number of deliveries. The CSMH maternity unit currently handles around 200 outpatients daily and conducts an average of 18 deliveries every day,.Additionally, the maternity home at Mumbra's Hakim Ajmal Khan Hospital will be designated as an extended center of CSMH.

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) announced a 24-hour water supply shutdown in several parts of the city on October 9, 2025, due to urgent maintenance on the Barvi Gravity Main pipelines by MIDC. The TMC has requested residents to store water and use it judiciously. Affected areas include Diva, Mumbra (excluding parts of wards 26 and 31), all areas under the Kalwa Ward, specific localities within the Wagle Ward, and Kolset Khalsa village.

Central Railway will operate a Mega Block on its suburban sections on September 21 for engineering and maintenance works, affecting UP and DOWN FAST lines between Thane and Kalyan stations from 10:40 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. Down Fast/Semi-Fast locals from CSMT will be diverted on the Down Slow line, stopping at Kalva, Mumbra, and Diva stations, arriving 10 minutes late.

I have rented a house recently in this area. There are many schools present in this location and the teaching procedure is very good. The children go to the park and played there delightedly. People have their lifestyle and they are very safe due to less crime in this area. Besides, the police are very alert, patrolling by car everywhere. So the women are very safe at night. No reckless driving is found here throughout the day.

I was staying in this area for the last 2 years. This place that I looked at was genuinely a very comfortable place for me. There were shopping malls, banks, fire brigade, and also government offices present in this location. There were some cinema halls for entertaining people in this location. The markets were very good with all the items at a very cheap rate. People were very delighted in this area.

Mumbra is a very good location. It is well connected with the cities like Dva, and Thane and connected by bus and other public transportation. The roads are very good and there are well- decorated building societies in this area. Hence the market of all things is present very close to this area. There are good hospitals, schools, and colleges near this area. The treatment facility is very good and we take help from others very effectively.

I am a tenant living in this location. Though I came here a few months ago, the environment makes me so delighted. Here the main problem is street light which is not everywhere present in the location. At night the people feel fear about this location. There are not so educated people and they live a poor lifestyle. There is no metro connectivity near this place. Almost everyday power cuts happen in this area.

This place is a very good location to see. There are gyms and grocery markets everywhere in this area. The population of the location is very good so they can not find any good and supportive people. Here the water supply is very good. There are cabs almost everywhere in this location. The schools are well decorated and there are adequate teachers available. Besides, there are also good colleges for higher studies. But power cuts are the main problem.
