The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has initiated a demolition drive targeting dilapidated and unsafe buildings across the city to prevent potential collapses before the monsoon season and improve urban safety. The KMC is issuing 'express orders' for the demolition of structures deemed unsafe and irreparable, with over 150 buildings identified for urgent attention.

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has approved a Rs 145 crore drainage project to address waterlogging in north and east Kolkata, focusing on rehabilitating old sewer lines along Beleghata Main Road, CIT Road, and Hemchandra Naskar Road.These sewer lines serves a densely populated urban basin spread over about 5.9 square kilometres, with population of around 2.5 lakh.

Kolkata's Metro network is undergoing significant expansion, with the Orange Line (New Garia to Airport) nearing completion and expected to open later in the year. The Calcutta High Court has directed the completion of construction work at the Chingrighata crossing by February 15, 2026. The Yellow Line extension (Noapara to New Barrackpore) is also progressing. To ease traffic on the Ultadanga flyover, a new 46-meter Bailey bridge is being constructed to connect Dakshindari with Salt Lake's AA Block, providing an alternative route from VIP Road to Sector V and the EM Bypass.The two-way bridge, costing an estimated Rs 6 crore , is expected completion by the year end. The Public Works Department has proposed a crossover on VIP Road for Salt Lake-bound vehicles heading towards the airport.
