Autorickshaws and other public transport facilities are readily available in North Kolkata. The area offers great access to the business district comprising of Chandni Chowk, Central, Esplanade, Rabindra Sadan and Maidan.There are several reputed educational institutions and hospitals in and around North Kolkata while shopping malls like Mani Square and City Centre I & II are easily accessible from it. The Sector V IT hub is easily accessible from North Kolkata as well. Major areas in North Kolkata include Maniktala, Bagbazar, Sovabazar and Shyambazar though a lot of the present development is happening on the northern fringes like Barasat and Madhyamgram and also along the BT Road including Sodepur, Kamarhati and so on. The West Bengal Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) now includes projects on plots as small as 3 cottahs under its regulation. This move aims to bring smaller developers and projects under regulatory oversight, protecting buyers from unethical practices like project delays or incomplete construction.1 Cottah is app 126 square meters in area.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has initiated a demolition drive targeting dilapidated and unsafe buildings across the city to prevent potential collapses before the monsoon season and improve urban safety. The KMC is issuing 'express orders' for the demolition of structures deemed unsafe and irreparable, with over 150 buildings identified for urgent attention.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has approved a Rs 145 crore drainage project to address waterlogging in north and east Kolkata, focusing on rehabilitating old sewer lines along Beleghata Main Road, CIT Road, and Hemchandra Naskar Road.These sewer lines serves a densely populated urban basin spread over about 5.9 square kilometres, with population of around 2.5 lakh.
