Pune's real estate market demonstrated strong momentum in the first half of 2026, with the office sector achieving its highest-ever leasing volume and residential sales showing a 2% year-on-year increase. New housing launches also rose by 17%, indicating developer confidence.

Pune experienced heavy rainfall on July 5, 2026, leading to significant disruptions and infrastructure damage. A compound wall of a residential society collapsed, damaging 14 vehicles, though no injuries were reported. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Pune and a red alert for Mumbai, forecasting continued heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across Maharashtra.

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has submitted a revised funding plan to the state government for the expansion of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway to 10 lanes. PMC has introduced a new policy to decentralize the construction approval process, aiming to reduce delays and enhance transparency. Approval powers are now delegated based on project size: Deputy Engineer for projects under 2,000 sq m, Executive Engineer for 2,000-10,000 sq m, and Superintending Engineer for projects over 10,000 sq m or those requiring environmental clearance.

PM Narendra Modi flagged off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains from Varanasi on April 28, 2026, connecting Banaras to Hadapsar (Pune) and Ayodhya to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (Mumbai). This development is expected to improve long-distance rail connectivity, and strengthening links between key religious and economic centers.

The Pune Municipal Corporation's general body has approved proposals for extending the Pune Metro to peripheral areas. New routes from Khadakwasla to Donaje, Katraj to Khed Shivapur, Katraj to Undri, and Wagholi to Lonikand have been sanctioned. These extensions are expected to improve connectivity to Sinhagad Fort, the proposed outer ring road, and newly developing areas.

CM Devendra Fadnavis announced that Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, and the Pune Metropolitan region will soon have a nearly 200 km Metro network. This expansion aims to significantly alleviate traffic congestion in the city. Currently, about 33 km of the metro network is operational, & 55 km in construction phase ,with further additions planned.

The Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) and Kirkee Cantonment Board (KCB) are in the process of merging with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). This merger aims to provide better civic amenities to the residents of these areas. Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol stated that the process is ongoing to expedite the provision of improved civic services.
