Pune is set to benefit from the Union Budget 2026-27's focus on developing infrastructure in cities with over 5 lakh population. The allocation of Rs 5,000 crore per City Economic Region over five years, along with proposed high-speed rail corridors including one connecting Mumbai and Pune.

Pune Metro's elevated Line 3, spanning 23.203 km and connecting Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar, will begin operations in phases starting June 15, 2026. The first phase will cover 12 stations from the Hinjewadi side, with the remaining stations expected to be operational by October.

Despite a 17% drop in property registrations in January 2026, Pune's real estate market saw only a 5% decline in stamp duty revenue. This indicates a shift towards higher-value property deals. The market is showing a rebound from December 2025, suggesting sustained demand in the mid and premium segments.

PMC is moving forward with plans to construct a new bridge parallel to the existing Rajaram Bridge to alleviate traffic congestion on Sinhagad Road. This project aims to improve connectivity between Sinhagad Road and Karvenagar , DP Road, reducing daily traffic bottlenecks and enhancing commuter experience.

Pune Municipal Corporation has decided to place the responsibility of water supply for newly included areas and housing projects directly onto the developers. This move aims to ensure adequate water pressure and supply until the PMC can establish its own infrastructure, with developers required to provide guarantees.

CM Devendra Fadnavis announced that Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, and the Pune Metropolitan region will soon have a nearly 200 km Metro network. This expansion aims to significantly alleviate traffic congestion in the city. Currently, about 33 km of the metro network is operational, & 55 km in construction phase ,with further additions planned.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has earmarked ₹954 crore in its draft budget for FY2026-27 to fund infrastructure development in villages recently merged into the city's limits. This allocation aims to address gaps in civic amenities such as roads, sewage networks, and water supply in these peripheral areas, ensuring uniform development and improved service delivery.

Shelwadi-Holkarwadi residents in Pune are expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of basic civic infrastructure, including damaged internal roads and non-functional streetlights. Despite being property tax payers, they claim their complaints to local authorities have gone unaddressed. The poor road conditions and no strret lights ,are reportedly causing hardship, making it difficult for emergency vehicles to access the area.

One tube of the new Khambataki Ghat Tunnel on the Pune-Satara National Highway has opened for a trial run for light vehicles. This is expected to reduce travel time through the ghat from approximately 45 minutes to just 7 minutes, significantly improving connectivity and safety. The tunnel aims to replace the accident-prone ghat section, with the full project, including the second tube, targeted for completion by March 2026.
