About Mahim, Mumbai

Mahim is located on Mumbai's outskirts. The name was derived from the ancient Sanskrit word Mahikavati, which means "miraculous." Historically, the area was known as Mahimawati, Mejambu, and Maijim. The islands of Mahim were given to the English King, King Charles II, as a wedding dowry for Catherine of Braganza, the Portuguese princess. Mahim is bounded on the west by the Arabian Sea and on the north by Dharavi, Bandra, and Dadar. Mahim has a population of 83662 people and a land area of 1.9 km2.

Brief Description – Mahim 

Mahim is a posh residential-cum-industrial neighborhood in south Mumbai that overlooks the Arabian Sea and is served by the Mumbai Suburban Railway network's western line. This neighborhood is made up of multi-story residential buildings and single-family homes, as well as a few commercial establishments. The presence of employment hubs nearby, as well as excellent connectivity to other areas, drive residential demand in this area. Mahim is located near Matunga, Bandra, and Dadar. Shrishti Sea View, Kanakia Miami, PrinceCare Zinnia, Jewel Crest, and Khandwani Mehrabad are among the many completed and under-construction high-rise residential projects in the area.

Physical Infrastructure and Livability Index

The western and central lines provide excellent access to major areas of Mumbai and Thane. The nearest railway stations on the western line are Mahim and Matunga Road, while Matunga is the nearest station on the central line. The western suburbs are accessible via SV Road, Western Express Highway, and Sion-Bandra Link Road. It is conveniently located near the Eastern Express Highway and LBS Marg, which connect to the eastern suburbs, Navi Mumbai, and Thane. The under-construction Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro, scheduled to open by the end of 2021, will improve connectivity to the airport and other areas of Mumbai. Furthermore, Mumbai International Airport is only 7 kilometers away from Mahim.
