Kanteerava Studio Junction Underpass Work Resumes After Decade-Long Delay

Construction on the long-stalled underpass at Kanteerava Studio Junction on the Outer Ring Road in Bengaluru has finally resumed. The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has spent nearly Rs 100 crore on the project over 14 years, as project got stuck due to land acquisition. The completion is expected within six to ten months, which should significantly improve traffic flow in the northwestern part of the city.

The Karnataka Budget 2025 has allocated a significant ₹7,000 crore for infrastructure development in Bengaluru, more than double the previous year's grant. Key projects include tunnel corridors, a double-decker flyover, and the expansion of the Peripheral Ring Road (now Bengaluru Business Corridor). The Karnataka government has initiated a 90-day action plan to tackle critical civic issues in Bengaluru, focusing on pothole repairs, garbage management, and completing pending infrastructure projects. This plan includes exploring congestion pricing for the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and accelerating the ORR Metro line project. The initiative is structured in phases, dedicating October to road repairs, November to a citizen-led garbage disposal campaign, and December to corporate engagement, particularly along the ORR [i]. Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has also announced a 90-day cleanup plan to address Bengaluru's garbage problem, calling for increased citizen vigilance, stricter law enforcement, and addressing the lack of civic sense among residents. She noted that illegal dumping and lapses in civic services contribute to the growing crisis. Traffic police are intensifying enforcement, including filing FIRs, against illegal dumping of garbage and construction debris that obstructs roads, aiming to reduce traffic congestion.
