New Airports in MP Boost Regional Connectivity and Economic Growth

In a bid to enhance air connectivity in the region, Madhya Pradesh is set to have two new airports in Guna and Shivpuri. The announcement was made by Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who revealed plans for the construction of these airports. Each airport will receive a funding allocation of Rs 45 crore from the government.

Guna Airport: Development Under UDAN 5.2

Guna is one of the cities identified under UDAN 5.2 for development. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has dedicated a budget of Rs 45 crore to realize the Guna Airport project. The AAI will provide Aeronautical Information Services (AIS), Communications and Navigation Surveillance (CNS), and undertake Operations and Maintenance (O&M) services to ensure the smooth functioning of the airport. This development is expected to improve accessibility to air travel for the residents of Guna and nearby areas. The availability of an airport in Guna will not only open up new opportunities for travel but also stimulate tourism, trade, and commerce in the region.

Shivpuri Airport: Connecting with Bhopal

Shivpuri has also been identified under UDAN 5.2 for airport development. Upon its operations, the Shivpuri Airport is set to accommodate nine-seater aircraft. Spirit Air, a new startup airline, has already expressed interest in providing connectivity from Shivpuri to Bhopal. Similar to Guna Airport, the AAI will provide Operations and Maintenance services to ensure the smooth functioning of Shivpuri Airport. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has allocated INR 45 crore for the development of Shivpuri Airport.

Boosting Regional Connectivity and Economic Activities

The construction of these new airports is expected to improve regional connectivity, directly benefiting residents of Bhopal, Shivpuri, Guna, and neighboring areas. With easier access to air travel, people will be able to commute more efficiently, opening up possibilities for tourism, business, and trade. These initiatives are also anticipated to stimulate economic activities in the region. Improved air connectivity is known to have a positive impact on local businesses, attracting investments, and driving economic growth.

This development aligns with the government’s vision to boost regional connectivity and promote balanced regional development. Madhya Pradesh’s commitment to improving air connectivity further strengthens its position as a prominent state in terms of infrastructure development. With the introduction of these new airports, the state is actively working towards creating more opportunities for growth and development.
