Atal Bridge Inauguration: Insight about Dare to be Different Bridge on Sabarmati River

Atal Bridge

Atal Bridge: An architectural marvel connecting the magnificent flower garden on the western riverside to the future arts and culture centre on the eastern end. It has an eye-catching design perfectly illuminated with LED lights. It is almost 300 metres long and 14 metres wide in the middle.

On Saturday, August 27, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the landmark Atal Bridge, a new addition to Gujarat’s Ahmedabad city’s famed Sabarmati Riverfront. One more step toward the development of Gujarat as a State. From Statue of Unity to Atal Bridge, Gujarat never fails to leave that jaw-dropping effect on visitors.

The foot overbridge honouring former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will create a crossover on the narrow gap between the river’s western and eastern ends.

As announced by the Central Government, this bridge will connect the Flower Park and the Event Ground landlocked on the West Bank with the proposed Art/Cultural/Exhibition Centre on the East Bank through the plaza. Additionally, it will assist in connecting multi-level parking lots and other public developments on both the East and West Banks.

The day before one of its kind, the Atal bridge on the Sabarmati river, was officially opened, PM Modi shared some stunning images of the footbridge on Twitter. The tweets took the entire social media, as the photos were mesmerising and made everyone stop and talk about it. PM Modi is expected to travel to Gujarat for two days and participate in several other activities.

Factual Description of Atal Bridge

Amdavad Municipal Corporation has raised the bars high with the dare to be a different type of pedestrian bridge construction over the Sabarmati river. To enhance the overall beauty of the riverfront from both ends, this bridge has been built between the existing Ellis Bridge and Sardar Bridge.

This 300-metre-long bridge embraces a dazzling design, brimming with LED lights of vibrant colours. Considering the ease of movement, the bridge is kept 14 metres wide at the midpoint.

In construction, steel pipes of 2,600 metric tonnes were employed to build the overbridge and give it the expected look. The railings are glass and stainless steel to prevent rust and give that shimmery eye-catching look. The roof is covered with colourful fabric.

It will help bridge the gap between the future Arts and Culture Centre, landlocked at the eastern river end and the Flower Garden, which is positioned at its western end. The bridge will be accessible from lower and higher walkways and the riverfront promenades.

The bridge will make it convenient for pedestrians to traverse the Sabarmati River from end to end and allow people to see the expansive waterfront from the height and middle of the bridge.
