The South Central Railway (SCR) recently acknowledged the commuter hardships faced by individuals traveling from the eastern region of Hyderabad. In light of this, the railway authorities have decided to construct a new terminal at Cherlapalli, strategically located on the eastern side of the city. This development comes as a relief for residents of this rapidly developing area, as they will enjoy convenient proximity to the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
Alleviating Congestion and Enhancing Passenger Convenience
Once operational, the new Cherlapalli terminal is expected to tackle the issue of congestion at existing rail terminals while catering specifically to passengers from the city’s eastern part. With an estimated cost of Rs 4.30 billion, the station is being constructed with modern infrastructure and passenger amenities in focus. The station building itself will boast various facilities. From six booking counters to separate waiting halls for men and women, the terminal aims to enhance passenger convenience. An upper-class waiting area and an executive lounge on the ground floor will provide comfortable spaces for travelers. Moreover, the first floor will feature a cafeteria, restaurant, and restrooms along with spacious concourse areas. The station’s modern elevation will also showcase illuminated facade lighting, adding to its visual appeal.
An Array of Additional Enhancements
In addition to the new facilities in the station building, the revamped Cherlapalli railway station will welcome four additional platforms. Furthermore, the length of the existing five platforms will be extended to accommodate a increased number of trains. These platform expansions aim to reduce overcrowding and ensure more efficient boarding and alighting processes. The focus on passenger convenience does not stop there. The railway authorities have planned two new foot overbridges — one measuring 12 meters in width and the other six meters. By introducing these overbridges, passengers will find it easier to navigate the station, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free experience. The plan also includes the installation of seven lifts and six escalators, making it more accessible for elderly and disabled passengers.
Security and Accessibility for All
The upgraded Cherlapalli railway station also prioritizes safety and security for all passengers. CCTV surveillance will be installed throughout the premises, providing a comfortable and secure environment. Additionally, ample parking space will be created to accommodate the growing number of commuters, making it easier for those traveling by car. To further assist passengers, signboards indicating directions will be prominently displayed, guiding them to their desired destinations within the station. Through the implementation of these features, the Cherlapalli railway station aims to become a model hub for efficient and secure travel.
