Government allocates Rs.60 billion to enhance connectivity in Arunachal Pradesh’s border areas

The Indian government has made connectivity in border areas a top priority, with the road transport and highways ministry allocating approximately Rs.60 billion for the development of the strategic Frontier Highway in Arunachal Pradesh. This highway will run parallel to the India-Tibet-China-Myanmar border, enhancing connectivity in the region.

Construction Work to Begin in April

The construction work on this two-lane, 1,748 km highway will commence in April of this year. Located just 20 km from the international border, this project aims to improve accessibility and connectivity in the area.

Three Agencies to Undertake Construction Work

To ensure the efficient execution of this mega road project, three agencies will jointly undertake the construction work. The state Public Works Department (PWD), the Border Roads Organization (BRO), and the National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation will collaborate on this crucial initiative.

Phased Execution of the Project

The entire Frontier Highway project will be implemented in phases, with the objective of completing it in a timely and organized manner. By the end of this financial year, nearly 400 km of this important road infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh and the entire North East region will be open for bidding. This development is expected to generate numerous job opportunities for local residents.

Promoting Regional Development and Hydropower Projects

Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasized that the construction of this highway will not only enhance regional connectivity but also connect crucial river basins. This connectivity will provide a much-needed boost to the development of multiple hydropower projects in Arunachal Pradesh. By streamlining transportation and accessibility, the government aims to catalyze economic growth and sustainable development in the state. The allocation of Rs.60 billion towards the Frontier Highway project in Arunachal Pradesh demonstrates the government’s commitment to promoting connectivity in border areas. As this strategic road infrastructure takes shape, it will strengthen the bond between neighboring countries, facilitate the movement of goods and people, and provide impetus to the overall socio-economic landscape of the region.
