With a silver medal on the second day of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022, star weightlifter Sanket Sargar (55kg) became the first athlete to unfurl India’s Tricolour at CWG 2022. The victory was later followed by Gururaja Poojary, Mirabai Chanu, and more.

In the ongoing event, women athletes will fight for 136 gold medals, men will compete for 134, and 10 medals will be awarded for the mixed events. The Commonwealth Games started in 1930 as the British Empire Games staged in England for the third time.

As history depicts, Australia has been the most prevailing nation bagging the most medals (2,415) in the event, followed by England (2144), Canada (1555), and New Zealand (657). India ranks fifth on the list with 503 medals. However, India has won more gold medals than New Zealand, which beats them in the all-time medals tally.

Even this time, it’s no different. India continues to bring gold and has won 9 medals until 1st August 2022. To know more about the athletes who brought India’s medal to the country, let’s have a rundown of this piece of news.
