The Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund or PM CARES, created in March 2020 in the wake of COVID-19, dedicates the funds towards combat, containment and providing relief against the outbreak of coronavirus or a similar pandemic situation arising in the future. The fund majorly does not receive any support from the budget but rather voluntary contributions by individuals, groups, or organisations.

The trust’s constitution states that the power to nominate three new trustees remains with the chairperson of the Board of Trustees – Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Eminent personalities in law, philanthropy, health, social work, research, science and public administration must be considered eligible to be appointed to the new board of trustees.

In a meeting held by the Board of Trustees, including Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Finance Minister and Amit Shah, Union Home Minister, the new members of the Board of Trustees and the Board of Advisors were proudly announced. A total of three in each are the most exceptional veterans we know and an ideal of many.
