Uttar Pradesh Tops the Chart with Highest Number of Operational Airports in India

Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state in India, has accomplished a remarkable feat by having more than 10 operational airports, surpassing all other states in the country. This achievement highlights the infrastructural development and commitment to improving connectivity in the state.

Expanded Airport Network Aids State’s Growth

On March 10, the honourable Prime Minister inaugurated multiple airports and airport terminals nationwide, including Aligarh, Azamgarh, Chitrakoot, Moradabad, and Shravasti in Uttar Pradesh. This announcement marks a significant step forward in the state’s efforts to enhance connectivity, boost tourism, and stimulate economic growth.

Flybig Commences Sale of Tickets to Four Newly Launched Destinations

Following the recent inaugurations, regional carrier flybig has started selling tickets for flights to Shravasti, Azamgarh, Chitrakoot, and Aligarh from Lucknow. These flights are part of the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS-UDAN), which aims to improve air connectivity, especially to under-served and remote regions of the country. The addition of these routes is expected to significantly increase the number of operational airports in India, contributing to greater accessibility and convenience for travelers.

Bolstering Airport Infrastructure to Meet Demands

Uttar Pradesh has historically faced challenges in airport infrastructure due to its size and relatively lower GDP. However, in recent years, the state has made significant progress in this area. Efforts have been made to expand existing terminals, establish civil enclaves at military airfields like Bareilly, and operationalize new airports, such as the recently constructed one in Ayodhya.

Unlocking the Potential of Tourist Destinations

The addition of these new airports holds immense significance, both from a tourism and commercial perspective. Shravasti, for instance, is a renowned destination as it is the place where Gautam Buddha resided most after attaining enlightenment. The site boasts ancient artworks and monuments related to Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism, unearthed through archaeological excavations. Previously, travelers had to rely on the airport in Ayodhya, which entailed a commute of over 100 kilometers. The establishment of an airport in Shravasti will greatly enhance accessibility and attract more domestic and international tourists to this historically rich and spiritually significant area. Chitrakoot, another notable destination in Uttar Pradesh, holds immense cultural and religious importance. The revered Chitrakoot Dham is located in Uttar Pradesh, while the town of Chitrakoot falls in the neighboring state of Madhya Pradesh. Lord Rama, according to Hindu mythology, spent 11 years of his exile in Chitrakoot. The improved air connectivity to Chitrakoot will ease travel for devotees and tourists, stimulating pilgrimage and religious tourism in the region.

Uttar Pradesh Poised for Greater Growth and Connectivity

With the inauguration of multiple airports and the corresponding expansion of the airport network, Uttar Pradesh is leading the way in bolstering air connectivity and boosting economic growth. The state’s commitment to infrastructure development and its efforts to improve airport facilities signify a positive change and a step forward in enabling greater accessibility and convenience for both domestic and international travelers. As other states strive to follow Uttar Pradesh’s lead, the future holds the promise of enhanced connectivity and increased economic opportunities nationwide.
