Known for movies like Zero Dark Thirty and Interstellar, Jessica Chastain bought a seven-bedroom 19th-century brownstone townhouse on the Upper West Side in New York, right off Central Park. She has paid a hefty sum of $8.875 million to buy this old-fashioned red-stone luxury. Covering an area of 6,608 square feet, the actress bought this vintage property for $8.875 million. As per reports, its market value now stands at $11.5 million.

After purchasing this antique beauty, Jessica heavily renovated the space with original wood panelling, an extravagant wooden fireplace along with intricate detailing on the ceilings. At the far end of the townhouse, a big living room overlooks the garden area. While her renovation didn’t tamper with the property’s original vintage essence, the elevator, wet bar, and Japanese-inspired studio on the fifth floor with hot tubs and rice-paper door definitely exhibit Jessica’s contemporary taste.

The Interiors of Chastain’s NY House

Reportedly, Jessica has hired well-known designers Mara Miller and Jesse Carrier to recreate the contemporary interiors of her 19th century Victorian-style home. From the renewed library decor and upholstery to picking the rugs, silk wall coverings and chandeliers, its refined restoration rendered a warm and cosy glory to its interiors.

With a luxurious rectangular tufted velvet pouffe table perched in the middle, this fireplace, out of the six others in her home, is where she loves to relax. Complemented with two equally lavish accent chairs, the room’s decor is a regal and eclectic mishmash of modern and vintage interiors.

Bookshelves on either side of the fireplace with decorative vases atop and wood storage beneath, along with ruby red walls and a chandelier, further enhance the style.

During the home renovation process, it seems Jessica, along with designers Miller and Carrier, attempted to give each of the property’s rooms a distinct character, as is evident in the decor of the indoor lounge area. The rich noir decor has been beautifully balanced with the woodwork on the opposite wall, while the cushioned couches and slipper chairs fencing the burlap-wrapped low table effortlessly enhance its leisurely essence.

The Floral Master Bedroom Decor

Taking inspiration from the architectural splendour of a Victorian palace, the bedroom was brought to life with a larger-than-life royal canopy bed ornamented with rich floral drapes that represented wealth and privacy in the 19th century. While the overall decor of the bedroom flaunts a soothing neutral palette of pink, beige and white, the dark wood flooring along with grey and red ethnic patterned rug introduces prominent contrast and drama to the design.

The hand paintings, the bedside lamp, the ceramic pot, the empire bench and the table clock personifies the appeal of the symmetry in the room. With two fireplaces installed in the master bedroom as well, it seems fire can be one of the favourite elements of the beloved Chastain.

Maintaining an all-white palette for the walls and cabinets, the kitchen decor of this 19th-century townhouse is a beauteous amalgamation of modern and vintage decor with maximum daylight exposure. The silver chandelier in the kitchen illuminates the butcher-block-top island, sitting right at the centre. The white tiles with slight shade cabinetry complement the dark kitchen countertop and the wooden flooring.

Combining the yesteryears’ British and European interior designs, the juxtaposition of wainscot panels and damask wallpaper truly render a monarchial galore to the decor, augmented further by the grand chandelier. At the same time, the chequered cushion chairs against the glass finish dark wood table offers an interesting contrast of post-modern and vintage charm.

Jessica bought this Greenwich Village condo in 2012 for approximately $1.2 million. With two bedrooms and bathrooms, a chef’s kitchen and high ceilings, this duplex covers about 1,248 sq ft of area. The austere curved stairs amidst the living room and dining space, along with the pastel wall colour and simple furniture, invoke the elegant and sharp spirit of the actress.

The three big glass windows brighten the living room with natural light. The easy tones of the rug carpet, walls, and furniture blend well with the plum-shade couches. The raw wooden central table gives the proper rustic look to the room’s ambience.

Her contemporary condo also houses a modern U-shaped kitchen deftly equipped with enough storage space, a modular chimney, and all the appliances a chef would ever desire.

The master bedroom and bathroom also have all the facilities that make this Greenwich condo perfect for anyone to live in. But later, in 2015, it is believed that she sold the property for approximately $1.9 million.
