PM Modi Inaugurates Multi-Crores Govt. Projects in Varanasi

On Thursday, July 7th 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the cornerstone for many development programs worth more than 1,800 crores in Varanasi to increase infrastructure and improve the quality of life.

Narendra Modi officially inaugurated the “Akshaya Patra Mid-Day Meal Kitchen” at LT College in Varanasi at around 2:00 p.m. This kitchen is facilitated with all the necessary equipment to prepare midday meals for up to 100000 students.

Prime Minister Modi then visited the International Cooperation and Convention Centre, ‘Rudraksh’, to inaugurate the “Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam” on the accomplishment of the National Education Policy.

Narendra Modi then also travelled to Dr Sampurnanand Sports Stadium in Sigra, where he officially launched and laid the foundation stone for many projects totalling more than Rs 1,800 cr.

Over the past eight years, PM Modi has heavily focussed on the infrastructure development in Varanasi, which as a result, has greatly enhanced the city’s whole essence and environment. The main goal on which all the upcoming projects in Varanasi focus is just to improve the quality of life. The launch of all PM Modi’s development projects is just another step in the direction of efficient and effective living standards.

Varanasi Smart City Projects

The launched upcoming projects in Varanasi include numerous initiatives under the smart city and urban projects, like:

  • Development of Namo Ghat in Phase 1, along with the construction of a bathing jetty
  •  500 boats’ (diesel and petrol) engines to be switched to CNG
  • Development of Kameshwar Mahadev ward in Old Kashi
  • Commencement of construction for 600 EWS flats in Harhua, Daspur
  • New vending zone and urban place to be prepared under the Lahartara-Chowka Ghat flyover
  • Dashashwamedh Ghat to get a new marketplace and several other attractions for tourists
  • A 33/11 KV substation is to be made at Nagwa Ghat under IPDS Work Phase 3

Varanasi Road Projects

To make commuting in the city an easy task and lessen the traffic load on the city and rural roads, various govt. projects in Varanasi were introduced by PM Modi, like:

  • A four-lane road over the Babatpur-Bhadohi bridge road 
  • An overbridge on the Varuna River 
  • The widening of the Pindra-Kathiraon Road
  • The widening of the Phoolpur-Sindhaura Link Road
  • Rural roads to be reconstructed 
  • The construction of seven roads under the PMGSY
  • The widening of the Dharsauna-Sindhaura Road
  • Widening of the six-lane road (Lahartara to Vijaya Cinema)
  • The four-lane widening of the road from the Pandeypur flyover to the Ring Road
  • The four-lane widening of the road from Kuchaheri to Sandaha
  • The widening and strengthening of the Varanasi-Bhadohi rural road
  • Five new CC roads are to be constructed in the rural Varanasi
  • A road bridge near Babatpur railway station on Babatpur-Chaubeypur road

Varanasi’s Sewage Improvement and Water Supply Projects

The upcoming projects in Varanasi were launched for the improvement of sewage, and supply of water are:

  • Installation of new sewer lines wherever needed
  • The old trunk sewer line is to be rehabilitated by trenchless technology
  • 25,000 sewer connections to be installed in the Trans Varuna area
  • Repair of the leaks in the city’s Sis Varuna neighbourhood, 
  • Introduction of the rural drinking water program at Taatepur Village, etc.

Varanasi Social, Sports, and Educational Projects

  • Village Mahgaon to have an IIT
  • Banaras Hindu University (BHU) to have “Vedic Vigyan Kendra” Phase II
  • Ramnagar to have a Government Home for Girls
  • Government Old-Age Women Home at Durgakund to have a theme park
  • A synthetic basketball court and athletic track at the Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Sports Complex in Bada Lalpur
  • Numerous police and fire safety projects were introduced
  • The construction of a non-residential police station in Sindhaura
  • Constructions of Dormitories and barracks at the police stations in Mirzamurad, Cholapur, Jansa, and Kapsethi
  • A fire extinguisher centre in Pindra
  • Initiation of the Phase 1 foundation for the Sigra sports stadium’s renovation

A Step to Increase and Enhance the Tourism in Varanasi

The foundation of PM’s development projects was laid to boost the city’s tourism; the projects are:

  • Asht Vinakaya Pavan Path is to be constructed to give tourists a great experience
  • The pilgrimage yatra for Dwadash Jyotirling
  • The pilgrimage yatra for the Asht Bhairava
  • The pilgrimage yatra for the Nav Gauri
  • Initiation of the tourism development work for the Panchkosi Parikrama Yatra Marg
  • Old Kashi’s various wards to be enhanced and developed

Additionally, the PM will inaugurate the “Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam” at the Rudraksh International Cooperation and Convention Centre. The Ministry of Education will host the Shiksha Sangam from the 7th to 9th of July. 

Eminent academics, decision-makers, and efficient leaders will have a private forum to discuss, share the experiences, and initialize a plan for effectively implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

More than 300 academic, administrative, and institutional officials from colleges and institutes of national importance (IIT, IIM, NIT, IISER) from all over the nation are taking part in the event as part of a capacity-building initiative.
