Overview of SAR(Saudi Riyal)

In Saudi Arabia, the Arabic language is spoken and Saudi Riyal is the official currency of the country. The symbol of SAR is ر.س.

Saudi Arabia is the birthplace of Islam and home to Islam’s two holiest sanctuaries, Makkah and Madinah. It is located in the Middle East between the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea. However, the modern Saudi state was established in 1932 after thirty years of hard work of uniting the Arabian Peninsula. Saudi Arabia’s capital is Riyadh.

History of SAR(Saudi Riyal)

Since Saudi Arabia came into existence as a country, they have used Riyal as their country’s currency. Before it became Saudi Arabia’s currency, it was the Hejaz’s currency. At that time, it was considered as one of the prominent currencies of the Mediterranean region amid the era of Ottoman.

The currency of Hejaz Riyal was truly based on the Ottoman 20 Kurus coin but was never equivalent to them. Further, it was divided into 20 qirshes. The first Saudi Riyal was the same in terms of characteristics as the Hejaz Riyal, distributed beside the coins of Ottoman and worth 22 Ottoman Kurus which was further divided into 22 ghirsh. But, the system was changed in 1960. It made 20 qirshes in one riyal, which was further modified in 1963 with the introduction of the halala. A halala is one-hundredth of a riyal.

History of INR(Indian Rupee)

Throughout its history, the INR has had many ups and downs. Currency has been used for a long time, dating back to the 6th century BCE. Along with Lydian Staters and Chinese Wen, ancient India is one of the oldest and first countries to produce coins.

Even in Chanakya’s Arthashastra, he mentions the Mauryan dynasty’s use of silver, gold, copper, and lead coinage for purchasing goods.

Arthashastra was written between 340 and 290 BCE, which is a remarkable discovery.

Under British administration in the 18th and 19th centuries, Indian currency faced numerous challenges. According to old archives from the 1900s, the British conducted a gold experiment in India to standardise its use. That, however, did not work out. There was also no proper monetary system in the middle century, according to Da Tang Xi Yu Ji. But times have changed, and the Indian currency is thriving like never before.
