What is PAN Form 49A?

PAN Form 49A is the form that helps Indian citizens in the issuance of PAN (Permanent Card Number). Being a citizen of India, you have to fill Form 49A to get a PAN card. The form aids the allotment of Permanent Account Number in a systematic manner.

Once your PAN card number is issued, you can download e-PAN from the official websites of the Income Tax Department of India. The websites are UTIITSL and TIN NSDL.

With these online web portals, you can also pay for the application fee online and attach the mandatory documents and your photographs. 

Note: Make sure the passport-sized photographs are not scanned copies of real photographs.

What is the Structure and Components in Form 49A?

The structuring and components of any government form play a crucial role. And, PAN form is one of those pre-eminent application forms. 

The PAN application Form 49A is divided into various sections. These different sections are drafted to make the form easy to fill. Every section of the form has designated text boxes so that you can write the information, attach your photograph, and do your signature or thumb impression. Complete Name – You have to write your first name, surname, and marital status. 

Name Abbreviation – In this part, you have to write the initial of your name the same as you would like on your PAN card.

Other Names – You have to pen down any other name you were known earlier, other than the name provided in the application. If you have a different name, you have to give the complete details of another name such as – First & Last name and their surname. 

Gender – In this part, you can select your gender from the given three options – male, female, or transgender.

Birth Date – In this part, write your birth date, month, and year. However, you have to write the date of partnership or agreement for companies.  

Name of Father – You have to pen down the complete name of your father. Make sure to write his first, middle, last name, and surname. This rule applies to every person filling the Form 49A, involving married women as well. 

Address – You have to write all the details about your residential and official address in this part of PAN Form 49A. Make sure to jot the address carefully, as one mistake can lead to the rejection of your form.

Communication Address – In this part of the form, you have to write the communication address between your office and residential address.

Contact Number and Email Address – In this part of PAN Form 49A, you must write down your country code, state code, telephone number, or mobile number.

Applicant Status – You have to write your status. You have to choose between an individual, or a HUF member, a Company, or a Partnership firm.

Registration Details – You only have to write the registration number of a company, or firm, or LLPs, etc.

Aadhaar Card Number– In this part, carefully pen down your Aadhaar card number. 

Note: It is necessary that every detail of your PAN matches the details of your Aadhar card.

Income Source – You have to write about every source from where you draw your income.

Assessee Representative – In this part of the form, you have to write the name, entire address of the representative.

Submission of Documents – In this part of the form, you must attach your documents and submit them with the PAN Form 49A.

What is the Procedure to Fill Form 49A?

There are some rules you have to follow while filling the information in the PAN application Form 49A.

Use of Language & Basic Rules

In the law, neither a rule nor provision is given about using other languages apart from English. Thus, to fill the PAN Form 49A, you have to use English only. While filling the form, make sure to use block alphabets using black ink. You also have to avoid overwriting the form. And, to maintain the clean sheet, fill one alphabet in one block only. 

Passport-Size Photographs

You must attach two most recent passport-sized photographs in the field available on the PAN application Form 49A. While attaching your photographs make sure to follow the following points:

  • Your photographs must not be stapled or clipped. 
  • Your photograph must be clear and visible.
  • The photographs you are using must not be scanned.
  • There must be clear furnishing of your photographs.

Signature on the Photograph

You can either sign your form or use the impression of your left thumb on the designated places as written on form 49A. You have to make sure that whatever method you use, one on your photograph and the other in the box on the right side below the photograph in the form. 

Make sure, the photograph on the right-hand side is clear and visible as it will be used on your PAN card.

Refrain from Overwriting

You have to avoid overwriting on the form. It can lead to the rejection of your Form 49A.

Communication Details

You have to fill in all the contact details that are active from address to phone number to your email address. It is mandatory to write the details such as pin code, state, city, etc. However, make sure to write your STD code details as well.

You can use several documents as identity proof like a driving license, passport, Arm’s license, Aadhaar card or any ID card issued by the government, Pension card, and Bank certificate. For minors, any of the above-mentioned documents are acceptable.
