Women-Owned Astonishing Hotels around the World

Women-owned Astonishing Hotels around the World

Women are making startling records in various industries with their commendable approach and out of the box creativity. This time we bring to you the remarkable journeys of such women who decided to walk against the social stigma in ownership and management, specifically in the hospitality industry.

This blog will also enlighten you about strong-headed women who know how to turn their passion into reality. Some of the examples below will amaze you with fierce personalities who selected hospitality as their forte, despite having no background or domain expertise.

Meeting the Achievers of the Hour

What makes these phenomenal personalities stand ahead of the mass- is the zeal with which they created an immense buzz in the market and had a competitive strategy while proceeding with their first move toward the hotel industry. Be it a town or the countryside; these hotels are undoubtedly some of the best sites in the world. Let’s dive in!

Copper Door B&B

“My thought was based on offering grandma’s breakfast and bed”, – said the Hotelier Jamila Ross, who launched her dream project in 2018. The hotel is located in the Overtown Enclave of Miami.

Jamila is a well-known name in the hospitality industry. As a chef, she has an experience of decades which started right after she graduated from the Culinary Institute of America.

In an interview, she revealed that the basic idea she followed while setting up her hotel was to create an aura of the vintage era and accordingly customise the rooms. This comes along with every cuisine to be prepared in a homemade manner.

Ross’s journey from Younkers, New York (Hometown), to exploring Los Angeles, Kuwait and Dubai are incredible and inspiring. This shows the sweat she has put in even before trying her luck in the hospitality business.

In her hotel, soft colours are used for subtle appearances with lots of greenery. Including this, some expensive bamboo or crystal decor is added to complete the entire vibe alongside colourful paintings on the wall.

Interestingly, she has set a benchmark for all the women out there, bringing the revolution in the business world, which still has a long way to go. While making astounding efforts towards women’s empowerment, Jamila acknowledges that even a country like America does not possess a decent population in hospitality and has miles to go before achieving heights in the field.

This insight encouraged her to lead the change and work tirelessly towards her goal of building this dream project.

The Carpenter Hotel

This classic hotel does not limit itself to only world-class service quality, but it was also built with an entirely different approach. It focuses on customers’ needs as a priority. It is conceptualised in a way that can truly uplift any visitor’s mood.

This solitary-storey building is constructed where class and culture have their best blend offering plenty of soothing vibes with a diversified list of services. Do you know who researched the guests’ preferences to make it more like home? Architect Jen Turner, the owner.

She started the project with her husband, Jack Barron, after serving for 11 years with the same expertise in Manhattan. Even though her better half had a significant role to play when they started this project, she currently holds a majority say here. Jen has often been quoted saying that behind her hotel, the primary focus was not to restrict the service with comfort but to raise the bar with its excellence.

If we talk about the interior and decor, beige is the most dominating wall colour. Classic chandeliers are added, including some ceiling works with iron rods, enhancing the rich ambience of the decor. The design majorly depends on some greenery inside, which enhances the aura of the campus. This surely works as a welcoming ambience for the visitor’s mood while contributing to their pleasant stay.

Turner shares her experience that she changed the entire look of this hotel- from the centre of a carpenter’s trade union to a lavish resort in 2018. Needless to say, this entire process took a lot of hard work and dedication. It won’t be wrong to say that this holiday home is undoubtedly exceptional in its existence, appearance and service.

The Roundtree

Social distancing became a norm during the pandemic, and this hotel’s theme is primarily based on the said shift. It resonates with the idyllic acres style. The property owner, Sylvia Wong, has been quoted saying she wanted to throw the service with a homely feeling where safety is ensured.

She exclaimed that The Roundtree site was always a big yes from her side with the view of Hampton, which is refreshing amidst the nature. The hotel got its possession in 2020 only, but the profit rate since its existence is inspiring. You can see white walls with wooden designs on the floor, giving it a diversified look. The furniture is either brown or white with a few neutral paintings.

There are some dotted rolling lawns which have lounge chairs, fire pits and Ping-Pong tables with appealing interiors. The major fact that influenced us to count her on the list was Wong’s non-expertise in the hospitality industry. Although she has worked at Manhattan’s Tech and Investment Companies, the Roundtree was a completely different subject she has ever taken up.

But with her in-depth market research and strong determination, she proved that challenging yourself by trying something out of the blues can give you an unusual return with pride.

Hotel Peter & Paul

Nathalie Jordi- the owner of the popular hotel Peter & Paul, is another hotelier who has set a benchmark in the market. Although it wasn’t easy for her to move from New York to New Orleans in 2009 but to do something desirable and exquisite, she had to let go of her comfort zones.

Jordi belongs to the Marigny District, popular for its Jazz cafes and clubs. So, she always knew that nothing other than New Orlean would suit her ideas the most, which eventually had the business base for her project.

What excited Jordi the most was the location of this project-it used to have a group of buildings constructed in the 1860s. The existence of a holy church, a convent, and a rectory became the major centres of attraction for her. And eventually, this convinced her to launch Hotel Peter & Paul there itself exactly after 13 years post her visit. Primarily, the site was suggested by a New York-based designing company called ASH NYC.

Jordi believes that hotels are like living things, and it would be an injustice to not bringing the best version of it with utmost eligibility. Her hotel includes 71 guest rooms with an ivy-covered sunroom. The interior reflects a royal look with its aesthetics, especially the walls with golden-paint designs. Curtains and the bedsheets are well- synchronised to complement each other as per the theme. Here, printed pieces of furniture are inspired by the 60s decor and are placed against tall doors and big vases on the table to make it one of a kind.

The idea was derived from Monet’s house in Giverny, France. Hence, this thought brought her to such an extent that after five years of wholesome efforts, Hotel Peter & Paul had its first open tag in 2018. This includes the collaborative efforts of some highly-skilled women from the industry.

The Joshua Tree House

Let us witness another inspiring story with Hotelier Sara Combs, who chose to build her career with a Craigslist ad. She holds a degree in Environmental Design from the Maryland Institute College of Art.

In the year 2014, she and her better half, Rich, were struggling with their usual life in the tech industry before the launch of her project. She says her acknowledgement of individuality was worthy after choosing the hotel business as her forte. However, the initial stage was experimental as she possessed no knowledge. But with ardent hard work, she turned the tables in her favour.

The backstory of her journey commenced when she had this realisation on a road trip in Joshua Tree, 45 minutes away from Palm Springs. Her hotel comprises spaces designed with light brown wooden ceilings and lamps on top. There are other decor items which are made of bamboo and mirrors. You can find mini cushions on white couches and some natural artwork. This one undoubtedly gives the chic boho vibe to turn your holiday into a dreamy one.

At its launch, the site’s images were mesmerising enough to grab the viewers’ attention immediately. For a major reason behind such a growthful impact, Comb’s speciality in interior planning made it worth every applauding. The hotel is situated in the middle of nature, which appeals to every visitor.

The Surfrider Hotel

With a fabulous rooftop cafe, this exclusive hotel is worth visiting between Oleanders and Verbenas in Malibu, California. It offers huge gathering halls for guests whose first choice is a fancy interior. Owned by Emma Goodwin- a woman of class, the venue gives splendid fire pits, a cinematic aura and overstuffed couches. The place is close to the ocean, and if you want to enjoy sundowner cocktails at their fullest, this vacation spot will be ready at your service.

She fetched the location when they recognised the 1950s model building on sale on a prime stretch of the PCH. The main purpose of creating the space was to beat the orthodox characteristics designed for any customer’s first visit.

In her interview, she shared that whatever approach they took to finalise the touch, their priority was customer satisfaction, adding elements of uniqueness and compelling them to plan another visit soon.

The building consists of only 20 rooms, making it a boutique hotel. The space is unlike other hotels with its interior and lavishing arena. You can find a modern approach in its design patterns simultaneously with a traditional touch in the decor. Multiple couches are placed with beautiful candles, making the space cosy enough to enjoy the astonishing views from dusk till night.

The hotel has four-poster beds with soft Bellino Linens and Waffle bathrobes of Parachute Home in its unique offerings. The washroom kit contains all the organic products of Frown Alchemist. One can even find the hammocks on every balcony.

Including this, the artistic element of 60s paintings, which are a decor part of the library, is another attraction that visitors would love to explore. It is more fascinating because of the iconic Surfrider Beach across the Pacific Coast Highway. It was the first project Goodwin launched, and thus, it makes it memorable for her that has every bit of her first step as a women hotelier.

End Thoughts

These are some of the women-oriented high-end hotels which have created quite a stir in the industry.
