The National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) was established in 1996; it was previously set up as NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited. This acts as a tax-related repository for the Income Tax Department.

An NSDL/UTI PAN card is nothing but a PAN card that is issued by these respective government authorities.

PAN card changes can be made in some cases, like changing the name after marriage, changing address, etc. The form to apply for PAN correction can be obtained from the UTIITSL or NSDL websites. Both these sites can also be used to request PAN card correction.

How to Applying PAN Correction Online on UTIITSL / NSDL

Given below are the steps to apply for PAN card corrections on the NSDL or UTIITSL website:

Step 1: Visit the UTIITSL or NSDL website.

Step 2: Click on the ‘PAN’ option under the ‘Services’ menu.

Step 3: Click on the ‘Apply’ option from the ‘Change/Correction in PAN Data’ section.

Step 4: Click on the ‘Changes or Corrections in Existing PAN Data/Reprint of PAN Card’ (No Changes in Existing PAN Data) option from the ‘Application Type’ drop-down menu.

Step 5: Choose the relevant assessment category from the ‘Category’ drop-down section.

Step 6: Enter certain details like full name, address, date of birth, email address, and contact number.

Step 7: Verify the captcha and click on the ‘Submit’ button.

Step 8: The online PAN correction request will now be submitted. A token number will be generated and sent to the registered email address. Click the link from the email to get redirected to the application form.

Step 9: Enter all the details like Aadhaar Number, father’s name, and mother’s name, and click on ‘Next’.

Step 10: This will redirect you to the page where you can edit your details.

Step 11: Upload all of the required supporting documents like identification and age proof documents.

Step 12: Verify the declaration and click on the ‘Submit’ button.

Step 13: This will redirect you to the payment portal. Payments can be made via debit/credit card, net banking, or demand draft.

Step 14: Once the payment has been processed, the applicant will be provided with an acknowledgement slip. The applicant is required to take a printout of the slip and submit it to the NSDL office, along with any supporting documents. Attach a passport size photograph in the provided space and sign over it (self-attest the photograph). Mention ‘Application for PAN Change’ followed by the acknowledgement number on the envelope.

Documents Required for Online PAN Card Correction

A request for PAN card correction can be made in case of changes in address, name, or date of birth. Given below are some of the documents that you will require to submit to make a request for online PAN correction:

  • In case of a name change request due to marriage, the applicant has to submit documents like marriage certificate, passport showing spouse’s name, invitation card, and publication of name change.
  • For name change in any other case, the applicant is required to submit proof of name change publication and companies are required to submit a certificate of registration.
  • To apply for a change in date of birth for companies/individuals, the applicant should produce documents containing the correct date.
  • For changes in the PAN holder’s address, the applicant has to mention the new address in the application form, which will automatically update the details on the Income Tax Database.
