Process to Get PAN Card in 48 Hours

Usually, it takes around 15-20 days for the PAN card to be issued once the application has been submitted. However, the applicant can now also apply to get a PAN card in 48 hours. Given below are the steps how one can do so:-

Step 1: Go to the NSDL website and select the relevant application form from the available options.

Step 2: Carefully review the guidelines and select the form and applicant types from the drop-down menu. Fill in other details as requested.

Step 3: After entering all the details, upload the supporting documents and click on โ€˜Submitโ€™.

Step 4: You will then receive an application acknowledgement number. Keep this number handy for tracking application status.

Step 5: Once the application is processed, you will receive the PAN card in 48 hours by post on your registered communication address.

Offline Method

A PAN Card is also offline for those not well-versed in online processes. Hereโ€™s the offline process to get a PAN Card in 48 Hours:-

Download the PAN Card application form from the NSDL website.

Print a copy of the form, fill it out, and attach the specified documents to it.

Submit the duly filled and attested application form to your nearest PAN service centre.

After the verification, the PAN card will be sent to the postal address mentioned in the form in 48 hours.

Documents Required to Get A PAN Card in 48 Hours

The documents submitted with the PAN Card application form are used to verify the applicantโ€™s details. These help establish an applicantโ€™s identity, residence and other personal information. Here are the documents to be carried along with the application:-

For Indian/ HUF:-

  1. Identity Proof: Aadhar Card/ Driverโ€™s License/ Voterโ€™s ID/ Passport/ Other documents.
  2. Address Proof: Aadhar Card/ Driverโ€™s License/ Voterโ€™s ID/ Property Registration Document/ Other documents.
  3. Date of Birth Proof: Matriculation Mark Sheet/ Birth Certificate/ Marriage Certificate/ Other documents.

For Foreign Citizens:-

  1. Identity Proof: Copy of passport/ copy of PIO Card/ Copy of Overseas Citizen of India/ Other documents with due attestation.
  2. Address Proof: Copy of Bank statement in resident country/ Copy of Passport/ Copy of PIO Card/ Copy of OCI Card/ other documents with due attestation.

What is the Structure of a PAN Card?

Now that weโ€™ve learned how to get a PAN card in 48 hours, letโ€™s see what your PAN card will look like. A PAN is composed of 10 alphanumeric characters. The first 5 characters of the PAN, the next 4 characters are numbers and the last character is again an alphabet. Now letโ€™s take a look at what all these numbers and alphabets mean:-

  • The first 3 characters are a random combination of alphabets.
  • The 4th character denotes the applicant type such as individual, firm, company, etc)
  • The 5th character can be one of the following:
    • If the applicant is an individual, the character will be for the applicantโ€™s surnameโ€™s first character.
    • In the case of entities, it will be the first character of the organizationโ€™s name.
  • The last character is a random alphabet.

Which Details Are Included in My PAN Card?

A PAN card will typically have the following information about the holder:-

  • Name of the individual/entity.
  • Date of birth/date of registration.
  • The PAN. It is a 10-digit alpha-numeric number which is used to provide a unique identity to the holder.
  • The PAN card also has the date of issue.

How to Get a PAN Card?

The Income Tax Department will issue the PAN card to the applicant, once the application and documents have been processed and verified. To make a PAN card application, the applicant has to submit Form 49A / Form 49AA to the Income Tax Department. They are also required to submit acceptable proof of name, age, and address.

Applicants can make PAN card applications offline as well as online. Applicants can apply for a PAN card online on the NSDL website by filling the form and uploading required documents. Applicants wishing to apply offline can download the form from the NSDL website and submit it to your closest PAN Service Center.

Can I Collect PAN Card From the Income Tax Office?

One of the most common misconceptions is that you can collect the PAN card from the Income Tax Office after submitting the application.

This is not at all the case.

Once the form is received by the authorities, the details are verified. The PAN card will then be sent by post to the registered email address.

If the applicant is not available during delivery, the card will be sent to the nearest area post office. The applicant can collect the PAN card by providing valid identity proof documents. The applicants can also track the verification status by following the below-given steps:

Step 1: Log on to the official NSDL website.

Step 2: First-time applicants need to enter the application coupon number. Applicants seeking a reprint need to enter their existing PAN number.

Step 3: Verify the captcha and click on submit.

Step 4: The PAN verification status will then be displayed to you.

The applicants can check the verification status only 5 days after receiving the acknowledgement.
