PAN Card Fees for a New Application in India

For applicants who are residents of India, the PAN charges are Rs 101, this is inclusive of a processing fee of Rs 86 and 18% GST. A uniform fee for PAN card applications was imposed to avoid discrepancies in application processing within the country. Having said that, any high-income tax-paying individuals/entities are high on the priority list for new PAN card applications.

PAN Fees for Change/Reprint in India

It is not uncommon for someone to lose/damage their PAN card, or find themselves in positions where a change in details is required. In such cases, one can always apply for a reprint or change of PAN card details. The fee for doing so is Rs 110, this includes 18% GST and a processing fee of Rs 93. This rate is applicable for communication addresses in India only. The rates for foreign addresses are different.

PAN Card Fees for a New/Reprinted for Foreign Citizens

The booming Indian economy and industrial sector have acted as a beacon for several foreign investors. Many entities and individuals are now looking to set up business operations in India. Such individuals/entities are required to have a valid PAN to carry out financial transactions in India.

The fee for issuing a new PAN card to foreigners is Rs 1011. This includes an application fee and dispatch fee of Rs 857 and 18% GST. The charges for applying for a reprint are Rs 1020 (dispatch charges Rs 771 + Application fees Rs 93), subject to 18% GST taxation.

PAN Card Charges for e-PAN Card

The introduction of the PAN card portal means that applicants can now opt to receive a digital copy of their PAN card on the registered email address. Given below are the charges for applying for an e-PAN card:

Payment Modes for PAN Card Fees

Given below are the accepted modes of payment for a PAN card application. The PAN card mode of payment depends on the address type of the applicant:

  • Indian Communication Address: Applicants with correspondence addresses in India can make PAN card fees payment using a credit card, debit card, demand draft, or net banking. It is important to know that making payments through debit cards or credit cards will attract a processing fee of 2%. The bank also has the authority to charge further applicable tax in addition to the PAN card fees. PAN fees payment made via Demand Drafts needs to be drafted in favor of ‘NSDL PAN’ payable at Mumbai. Payments via net banking attract a surcharge of Rs 4 + service tax.
  • Overseas Address: Applicants with foreign addresses can make PAN fees payments via debit/credit card or demand drafts. The demand draft should be drafted in the favor of ‘NSDL PAN’ payable in Mumbai. Payments made via debit/credit card will attract a 2% processing fee + service tax. Further, applicants might also have to incur conversion charges to such payments.

Who Can Make PAN Card Fees on Behalf of Others?

Depending on the type of applicant, the government of India has made provisions for the representative assessee to make PAN card payments. They are given as below:

  • Individuals: For individual applicants, the payment can be made by the applicant themselves or by their immediate family.
  • Hindu Undivided Families: Only the head of the family is authorized to make PAN card payments.
  • Firms/Companies: A partner or director of the firm can make payments for PAN card fees.

Associations/Trusts: In case of association of persons, trusts, local authorities, etc only the authorized signatory as stated in the Income Tax Act can make the payment.
